#THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 9 EPISODE 1 FULL#
This is back to Walking Dead 101 small teams on supply runs and empty buildings full of occasional jump scares. Petrol is clearly a limited resource now (even if Daryl's arrows still aren't), but everyone seems to have adapted to live without it. We open with a supply run into Washington on horseback, with everyone off to reclaim some rural agricultural tools from the museum so they can farm by hand. Everyone looks like they've had a bath, combed their hair, and dug all the zombie guts out from underneath their fingernails. Rick's a lot greyer than he used to be, but he's also clean. The new opening-credit sequence says it all – with birds on trees instead of bodies, graves sprouting flowers instead of hands, and guns finally being buried in the ground. The first time we see a walker, he's being strung up as a scarecrow in a perfectly lovely looking field. As the post-apocalyptic hellscape slowly crumbles back in on itself, the survivors have become homesteaders again. Season nine opens like Little House on the Prairie. Needless to say, we don't find out definitively in episode one. And the world is still overrun with zombies, in case anyone forgot.īut the bigger question for season nine is always going to be how, when and why Rick makes his big exit – with Andrew Lincoln selfishly deciding to spend time with his family instead of rolling around in mud and blood and misery every day for another eight years. Morgan's gone over to Fear The Walking Dead. Maggie and Daryl didn't like the fact that Rick spared him ( and neither did most of the fans). Negan took a stained-glass window shard to the throat and got himself locked up, but he's still alive. Not that there aren't a lot of loose ends to tie up. With the death of Carl, the end of the war and the throwbacks to the first episode, the end of season eight felt like the end of an entire chapter.
